Toxic Chemical in Personal Care Products

Perfume

I was the average girl, watching my mother and sister get ready in nice clothes, perfume, curling her hair and applying cosmetics wishing I was like her.  The only thing I cared about was smelling clean and looking good, spending hours on my hair, nails and make-up.  I had no idea what the ingredients were and could have cared less to be honest.  It wasn’t until I turned 35 and got married and was pregnant that I started watching Documentaries on the weekends.  I learned a lot and then did some research, life got real.  I had to decide whether to keep my products and continue to poison my body while become a statistic or change.  I got rid of all my personal care products, tooth paste included and used Baking Soda, Peroxide and Lemon juice.  It was weird and gross at first but it worked and something that works also is brushing with coconut oil.

Every day we are using personal care products on our skin, hair, nails, body, and teeth.  We buy products based on the TV commercials, recommendations from friends and family or magazines ads.  I’m not even sure how many of us realize how much we spend every month never mind the ingredients we are using that are toxic.  Many of our favorite make up brands contain chemicals such as Formaldehyde, which is a carcinogen, meaning it causes cancer.  Parabens are a common ingredient used as a preservative and research has shown that Parabens have stayed in the body 3 months later.  Parabens have been limited in Japan due to it toxicity in lab rats.  Not sure about you but when I read research articles and it says; “possible link with breast cancer”, I want to stay away.

Nail polishes are not safe either unless it is one made without the deadly ingredients.  Toluene is an ingredient in nail polish and paint thinners.  On the OSHA.GOV website, it says “Toluene affects the central nervous system, eyes, skin, respiratory system, liver, kidneys. Breathing high levels of toluene during pregnancy has been shown to result in children with birth defects and to retard mental abilities and growth. There is evidence that exposure to toluene at work is associated with spontaneous abortion.”  Formaldehyde is in nail polish as well.
