How To Create Sacred Space

Pick a room in your home of your choosing whether it is your bedroom, kitchen, bathroom or den. Often people choose their bedroom because they want a place to have a restful sleep, a sanctuary away from the chaos of every day life.

Step 1:
Declutter your space. Anything that you no longer use, donate or sell. If there are distractions such as a TV, computer, or gaming system, see if you can find another place for it.  Clean off any surfaces such as tables, desks, shelves, etc.

Step 2:
Choose a few items that you value spiritually. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it matters to you. Decorate the walls with inspiring words, poems, or sayings to lift your spirits. Place pillows on the couch, seat or floor for your comfort. Burn candles or incense to stimulate or relax you.

Step 3:
Make sure you have enough lighting for journaling.  Keep a pen and paper nearby for thoughts that run through your head. Keep a journal of dreams if you nap in your sacred space. Create a prayer book or passion board for the things you wish for deep in your heart and soul.

Step 4:
Enjoy. Be still. Meditate. Listen to your body. This is your sacred space. Sacred to you for whatever you need.

Let creating a sacred space be fun and personal. This will be the place to escape even if it is minutes a day. Life is so stressful and for most of us, it’s difficult to find time or a place to hide and breathe. I am moving to my first house and I cannot wait to create my sacred space in my office that is just mine, a place of peace and tranquility. Too many times we are so busy taking care of everyone else’s needs that we forget about our needs.

Take care of you, the rest will fall into place.

  1. For me that place is my bedroom. Though I’m not so good at the declutter aspect, my phone always manages to make its way to my room;) And I spend way too much time on it which is something I have to change!
Just reading your article made me feel calm!
